Bit of a strange question that you may be able to help me with. I’ve just won a free months pass for a local spa. This includes sauna, steam room, spa pool and plunge pool. I want to use this as I’m hoping it’ll help me relax and sleep better, thus helping the MAV. However I’m a bit worried that the high temperatures and chemicals used may actually trigger the dizziness. Anyone had experience of this? I can’t use the steam room anyway as I’m asthmatic and steam treatments during facials have given me breathing difficulties before.
I think this is one of those things that some people with MAV don’t tolerate very well, but other people seem fine with it (and could even be beneficial if you find it very relaxing). I went to something similar for a friend’s 40th birthday last year. My MAV was pretty unstable at the time, but I managed the day ok. I must admit I wouldn’t have gone had it not been a special day out for a close friend, but I didn’t have any problems in particular following it. But I didn’t go in the sauna - I don’t like being that hot at any time, let alone whilst feeling dizzy.
I’ll give the spa a go and see how I get on. I don’t want to give up the prize as i don’t normally win anything! I also won a free full platter meal at Nandos so I was very lucky this evening. Should have entered the lottery, I could have been a millionaire by now!!!
Thanks Victoria, I appreciate the offer but I’m afraid you’ll have to join a long queue of people all offering the same selfless act! Apparently they don’t really want the voucher, but they will generously take it from me as they wouldn’t want me going and triggering the dizziness. Nothing in it for them you understand, it’s all for my own good of course!
Actually reading the other replies, I’m probably going to give it a go. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all of that. I know people here have had issue with massage but I don’t like massages anyway so not a problem for me
Actually thinking about it, I had more offers for the Nandos full platter meal.
Hi Jeni, I’ve had similar concerns and from experience it really depends on how your body reacts. Saunas and hot pools can sometimes increase dizziness, especially if heat is a trigger, so it’s best to start slow and keep sessions short. Staying well hydrated helps a lot. Since steam isn’t an option, gentle use of the spa pool may be better. You could also use the Sitback app to book calming treatments and plan visits around how you feel.
