St Johns Wort

Acts like Zoloft. It works so well for me. I just got back into using it consistently and am back to feeling very recovered again. Fingers crossed it continues! I couple the GAIA brand (3 times a day) with 400mg magnesium and 200mg CoQ10. I am not sure about SJW and pregnancy but it seems safer than Feverfew, for those ladies out there. St. John’s Wort - MotherToBaby

This has been a lot on my mind lately as a woman in my early 30s who wants to have kids. Not an easy thing to figure out what is safe …but I figure people historically used these remedies for centuries for problems so hopefully they are pretty safe! Again I think it interacts with antidepressants, so don’t take it if you’re on medicine without asking your dr.

Ah, yes, was going to ask you about this, you read my mind!

Isn’t one of the pharma antidepressants supposed to be modelled on St. John’s Wort?

Agree with your statement about having been used for ages as a known quantity, but almost anything is toxic in too large a quantity (even water!), so you just have to be careful about dosage. Having said that for our condition that is probably not a risk. AND, as you point out: this should NOT be taken with another anti-depressant!

Glad you are feeling good again!!

FYI, found this:

I think the biggest mistake (misconception) people make with herbs and alternative medicines is to consider them ‘harmless’ - so take as much as you want!! As James points out -ANYTHING has the potential to be harmful! I totally agree that I trust a lot of the old -(original!) medicine more than modern, artificial meds… as long as you are prepared to do the research yourself and find what is right for you!!!
Wishing you luck in finding your way with having kids, I’m sure you will be fine!

I don’t take herbs as much as I want lol … just what it says on the bottle! I take a good brand, GAIA herbs. I went off the SJW today and just had magnesium glycinate 400mg in the morning and 400 last night, got me through today teaching full time under fluorescents and driving home. Driving with headlights in my face is never fun but I have ways of trying to calm myself. Sometimes when i’m feeling non-dizzy, I’m in disbelief so it’s hard to calm myself to the point where I enjoy it! I have to distract myself and not dwell on my sensations so much. xx
