Started Pizotifen

Hi everyone. Haven’t posted anything for a while… had a shocking couple of months with the flu (a MAVers nightmare). I have decided to revisit Pizotifen (Sandromigran) while I wait to have some VFT’s done in September (to rule out Menieres). I have been on this drug for 8 days and have been tolerating it surprising well with very little fatigue. However, I have experienced some upper abdominal pain and nausea and am hoping that this is not a side effect of the drug. The pain is quite intense and the last thing I want to deal on top of the usual headaches and dizziness. Has anyone else experienced this? I am hoping that it is unrelated and maybe related to the flu??? Maybe another part of my body is packing it in as well??? Any suggestions would be appreciated soooo much. You guys are much more knowledgeable than my local GP’s who keep telling me I have TENSION HEADACHES - OMG!!!

I didn’t experience anything like that on the Piz

Me neither. The side effects I got were tiredness (this passed after a few weeks) and weight gain (this didn’t!).

Ditto. I had extreme tiredness for weeks, and a very dry mouth, but no stomach pain,
Tony.

Im currently on 1mg. My only symptoms have been mild dry mouth and tiredness.

Stomach pains have gone…must have been some other problem??? Been tolerating this drug really well so far. Hoorah! First drug that I have been able to take without too many side effects. Fingers crossed that this may be the one. I have been taking 0.5mg for 2 weeks now. I haven’t seen any improvements with headaches or dizziness yet. Just wondering if I should continue with dose for another month or bump it up to 1mg?? I haven’t noticed any weight gain or increased appetite. I am very thirsty and tired in the mornings but nothing I can’t handle. What do you think?

I went to 1mg after 2 weeks with no problems. I would do it.

How are you feeling now ichbindarren? I bumped my dose up to 1mg. Am feeling extra dizzy this morning… I am hoping this will settle in a couple of days. Are you suffering any side effects?

I only have mild dry mouth. I think the med is helping. But its too soon to tell yet, Im waiting for the 6 week mark.

Sounds positive! Good luck! Let us know how you are travelling!

I too went up to 1mg after 2 weeks at neuro’s suggestion.

My main side effects were tiredness at first weight gain , an increase in scintilating scotoma (my aura) and the fact that it took my eyes a long time to adjust to different brightness levels (eg from daylight to the house). As it didn’t help my other symptoms at all I stopped after 2 months but generally found it an easy med to tolerate

good luck with it
