Taking medication wrong

So annoyed!!!

I’ve Been ill with this dizziness for 4 years now. I’m currently on Prochlorperazine…Every doctor I’ve seen has said take 1 pill 3 x a day as needed. That was it.

No one, not one explained that that should be one tablet every 8 hours to keep me constantly medicated through the day and night
So I’ve taken them every four hours ---- like 8,12,4 as and when needed ---- thinking that’s right and then gone unmedicated the other like 12 hours at night and thinking pills aren’t working and it’s been wrong all this time.

I should of taken them like 8am, 4pm and midnight to stay at a constant ‘therapy’ level …and keeping myself balanced…I’m wondering if after all this time I would have been well if I’d of known this in the first place…

I’ve even seen 2 ENTs and said I’m taking 3 pills a day with little affect but they have probably presumed I was told to spread them appropriately in the first place!

Did everyone else know this or is this me being stupid…I’ve always taken painkillers 4 hours apart too when it should be every 6!!!

Or taking the wrong medication entirely?!

3 times a day during the day for how long?!

Outrageous advice. Unless they have a very good reason in your particular case, eg you have an injury which may prevent you from compensating.

This is a very strong vestibular suppressant and is only meant to be used acutely. It also can put you at risk of a Parkinsons like syndrome if used chronically.

Part of the reason you may still be dizzy is that you are taking a drug which will block or at least hinder compensation.

You should probably be taking one of the relevant MAV drugs NOT this drug See:

And drug flowchart here:

I took Amitriptyline for 1.5 years at a conservative dose of 20mg and am no longer on the drug and no longer dizzy (though variable imbalance persists I’m far better than I was)

Thanks turn it around

I was on bethaistine (Serc) but was taking the same ---- every 4 hours and being unmedicated at night so that might well of worked had I taken it properly! But the doctor never told me the length of time to leave between doses

I was on serc, then when to procholorperazine, then started involuntary lactating so they changed me back to serc but then went back to prochlorperazine when the serc had no effect

But like I said if the doctor had explained how to take it correctly in the first place then maybe I’d be feeling better by now!

Do you have menieres or MAV? Any low frequency hearing loss?

No this drug will NOT cure you. It will likely extend your suffering. It puts your brain to sleep and does not address damage to the inner ear or inner ear fluid balance. It blocks compensation processes.

Please be more critical about what the doctor is telling you. Not all doctors are suitably qualified or up to the latest trends.

Sammy my understanding is that prochlorperazine is for emergency use only. That is how it was prescribed for me when the dizziness was so severe it caused fainting and vomiting. I cannot believe it was prescribed for you às a VM control med!!! Change your doc would be my advice and find an oto-neurologist who knows what he/she is doing.
