The Practice of Massage Therapy

Massage therapists work in a variety of settings, including private offices, hospitals, nursing homes, studios, and sport and fitness facilities. Some also travel to patients’ homes or workplaces. They usually try to provide calm, soothing environment with happy ending.
Therapists usually ask new patients about symptoms, medical history, and desired results. They may also perform an evaluation through touch, to locate painful or tense areas and determine how much pressure to apply.
Typically, the patient lies on a table, either in loose-fitting clothing or undressed (covered with a sheet, except for the area being massaged). The therapist may use oil or lotion to reduce friction on the skin. Sometimes, people receive massage therapy while sitting in a chair. A massage session may be fairly brief, but may also last an hour or even longer.

Cough. Well Scott, they occur in a variety of settings, including people’s homes. You are undressed but covered, apart from the area being massaged with oils, which produces friction. The session may be brief, or last up to an hour…whoa, hang on a minute…!

Is their a happy ending? That’s all I care about!

It ends well for everyone (hopefully at the same time). Ecstasy all round!

Right, so Dr D gives a massage with a happy ending in a private office no less! Now that’s natural therapy!

And Dr. Diner likes to eat in fine restaurants so maybe you could go for a nice meal together “beforehand”

Massage Therapy Nature of Work and Nature Therapy Nature Massage:**
Massage therapy is the practice of using touch to manipulate the soft-tissue muscles of the body. It is performed for a variety of reasons, including treating painful ailments, decompressing tired and overworked muscles, reducing stress, rehabilitating sports injuries, and promoting general health. Clients often seek massage for its medical benefit and for relaxation purposes, and there is a wide range of massage treatments available.

Massage therapists can specialize in more than 80 different types of massage, called modalities. Swedish massage, deep-tissue massage, reflexology, acupressure, sports massage, and neuromuscular massage are just a few of the many approaches to massage therapy. Most massage therapists specialize in several modalities, which require different techniques. Some use exaggerated strokes ranging the length of a body part, while others use quick, percussion-like strokes with a cupped or closed hand. A massage can be as long as 2 hours or as short as 5 or 10 minutes. Usually, the type of massage given depends on the client’s needs and physical condition. For example, therapists may use special techniques for elderly clients that they would not use for athletes, and they would use approaches for clients with injuries that would not be appropriate for clients seeking relaxation. Also, some forms of massage are given solely to one type of client; for example, prenatal massage and infant massage are given to pregnant women and new mothers, respectively.

Massage therapy, once considered the ultimate indulgence, is now recognized as a valuable component of preventative healthcare; a useful means of achieving a physical, mental, and spiritual balance. Massage therapy offers a variety of techniques to relieve stress and tension, promoting general good health and wellness. Bodywork has been used successfully for years to manage and treat a variety of chronic health problems including Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Herniated disks, Osteoporosis, Chronic Back, neck pain, and muscle spasms- just to name a few.
Muscle Tissue, insertions, tendons and ligaments all benefit from massage therapy. As these components are often the first line affected when the body is in a state of discomfort, remaining limber continues to be of the utmost importance in wellness and prevention.
Variety of massage therapies including:

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy
Swedish Massage
Deep Tissue Massage
Sychronized Massage
Hot Stone Therapy

I know I couldn’t please every one here… It’s up to you if all of you will give a malicious meaning the important facts I have shared.

Good eating and fine dining to you all! Bottoms up.

Dr Diner

Dr Diner,

I love massage therapy. Seriously, sometimes it leaves me so relaxed I start to fall asleep and sometimes I snore and even drool a little bit. Other times my neck and back are so jammed that both the massage therapist and I are working so hard its like were both digging a trench on a hot day. More water over here boss!

Many on this forum experience neck pain as part of their migraine symptoms. But if you want your spam/posts to be taken seriously you need to be more specific. Motherhood statements about the generic Wonders of Bodywork and their important facts kinda don`t really help anyone.

Thanks!

I’ve extended a massage as long as three hours.

David - Tantra?

Nope, just languid Swedish, maybe a touch of accupressure thrown in.

Last time was a couple-three years ago, for a friend who had begun suffering from tinnatus, and was rather stressed (direction of causality unknown).

Many years ago, when I was massaging professionally, I remember a similar stint with a customer who suffered from ALS.

Not my quotidian massage; rather meditative.

I came here thinking I’d be educated about the medical benefits of massage therapy for a migraine sufferer, and walk away less educated yet somewhat turned on. 8)
