Uk sufferers

Hi all,

Have any UK sufferers on here advised the DVLA of their dizziness? And if so what happened? I’m always better when driving or moving in general so haven’t informed them plus Migraine isn’t on their list of medical conditions they have to be advised of but ‘dizziness’ is which I why I was wondering. Any thoughts or experiences would be very welcome as I’ve been worrying about it!!

Thanks!

I have worried about this too in the past but like you said i tend to feel a bit steadier in the car for some reason?
If i was having a very bad day i would ask my other half to drive in preference to me and i don’t drive long distance often.
I have found that since having MAV although i feel chronically off balance my reactions are just as good, for example, if a pot falls from a cupboard i catch it in a flash, so i figure my judgement must still be ok somehow?
I personally wouldn’t tell the DVLA but use your own judgement as to how you feel. Do not drive if you are worse one day.

No I haven’t!

Thank you both for replying! Off balance is actually a better description of how I feel as well at the moment. I’m not surprised that no one has said that they have contacted DVLA, migraine isn’t actually listed as a notifiable condition and from what I have read about migraine it is highly unusual for individuals to show any kind of actual impairment during tests which I guess is why migraine is usually the last diagnosis after other conditions are ruled out. Thanks again xx

I notified the DVLA of occasional stumbles whilst walking under the advice of a general ENT and as a result they revoked my car licence in May2013. As a result I had to see a vestibular specialist at Queen Square who did further tests and confirmed I can drive safely. I had to reapply to DVLA and am still waiting for the DVLA to reinstate license.

Hi, thank you for your post on this. Do you mind me asking, were you seeing the ENT for MAV or another balance problem?

Hi
The original diagnosis reported to DVLA was vestibular hypofunction. This is not on the list of notifiable conditions but dizziness is so the ENT said I need to notify the condition.
The vestibular specialist subsequently diagnosed vestibular disorder + migrainous vertigo.
