Verapamil it is!

Okay everyone,

I think I’m going to choose Verapamil. Reason being, is because I think my dizziness causes me anxiety rather than the anxiety causes my dizziness. I like the fact that Verapamil is a vasodialator. I don’t really get the headache’s so there’s no concern there. It just seems that somewhere in the ear area/brainstem, the blood flow just isn’t right. My guess is that if the vessels and arteries are opened up a bit, things should come around maybe? At least some consistency would be nice.

Can anyone please give me some knowledge on how the best way to take this stuff? I’m seeing all kinds of ways to take this med on the net. There’s extended release versions- Should I not use extended release for migraine? What is the starting migraine preventative dosage for this med? Do I take it at night or throughout the day? I need some info to take to my dr. so he’ll hook me up.

What should I expect when I’m on this- Will it make me more tired? Will I gain weight on it? Will I turn into somewhat of a zombie like some antideppressants are known to do? Can I get drunk while on this med? I did see that it improves exercise longevity. That’s a good effect I think.

It does look like the side effects with this one are relatively low so I’m hoping that’ll be the case for me too. Thanks everyone!!!

Greg

Hi Greg - Glad you made the decision! I started on 120 extended release. I have a very bad drug phobia and am hypervigilant. Even with that, I have had absolutely no side effects. I am now moving up to 240 (again 1 pill extended release). My dr. doesn’t think I will have any side effects even at the increased dosage. It really is a drug that has very an extremely low profile for side effects and from my understanding any potential side effects are not related to feeling tired (since this doesn’t really lower you pulse rate), weird mental things etc.
Coming from someone who is really working on overcoming a drug phobia, I would say just take whatever dose your dr. prescribes and try to not focus on what you think might happen as there is a really, really good chance you won’t feel any side effects at all!!

Good luck

Hi Greg,

Start low, go slow is the mantra.

Good luck. S
