Okay, I have been taking Imitrex everyday for a week for a week now (excluding one day). I am trying not to take anything as I realize I must be rebounding but I can only handle the pain so long until I pop another Imitrex (or Amerge). Please, does anyone have any suggestions???

What I did with my relplax was starting weening myself off by cutting it in half, reducing it that way. Cause my pain was horrible also…but knock on wood I have only had one “headache” since November and I used an ice pak and was able to redcue it that way.
The book will tell you all about rebound and how to stop it and reducing your triggers…check with the doctor what else you may want to use in the interim.
My problem is that my DR appts are 1st, 3 wks out and 2nd, 5 wks out looking for a diagnosis of Meniere’s or MAV. So I am winging it on my own. My neurologist is kind of having a hands off approach until he gets a diagnosis so he knows what direction to take with me. He is a nice fella but just used to dealing with the same old same old. I sometimes feel like I know more than he does (obviously not true but it just feels that way).
After reading about the ice pack I have been trying it and it really does make a difference.
My book should be arriving any day!

Andrea,
As soon as you get the book go somewhere by yourself and read it. I got a highlighter and highlighted the parts that were most important so I could refer back to them. I have five ice packs that I got from Walmart and keep them in the freezer at all times so that I always have one ready when I need it, it even helps when I am feeling really wavy or off balance.
In fact I have one on now as I pushed myself a little more than i should have the last few days. I wish I could find the migraine diet and give you a length. Found it…

If your doctor does not want to work with you find another one …we have all been through that.
I appreciate the input! It is like 3 wks of major dizzies, ear/head pressure (yada yada yada all the other symptoms too) minimized leaving me with a week long migraine I just can’t shake. I have had a face gel mask fresh out of the freezer ACE wrapped to my head all day. That should be my avatar!
My book arrived today, already confirmed that I must be way in the rebound stage with 10 years of frequent triptan use behind me.
I plan to see what I can do to wean myself off. Wish me luck!
Andrea
Nance,
From the little that you talk about you neuro, he sounds like he may be a little old and not up to date with some of the newer diagnoses of migraine. I have run into this problem myself. MAV is a fairly new diagnoses, and a high percentage of doctors have never heard of it, or not enough to be able to properly diagnose it. I had one ENT diagnose me with bilateral MM during one of my flare ups and told that he had no clue why the anti-migraine med a take has taken me to an “almost” cured state. You may want to find a new neuro who has at least heard of MAV and you don’t have to educate him.
