I’ve had the cricket sounds and ringing in my ear for the last 18 months, but only last night it changed to also include a whooshing sound, which could be like a pulsing one where I hear my heartbeat. I’m not sure if this means it’s getting worse for me. It’s very uncomfortable. I just finished my second week of verapamil, and no changes for the dizziness.
Has anyone out there experienced this type of tinnitus change?
I have the same thing and have since this whole mess started in June 2008. It has come and gone, and was particularly bad when I was on Effexor and Lexapro (which I am still on). It actually improved for me on Verapamil. It is also worse in times of stress for me.

Have had that also started soon after the condition started and lasted for months then just went away…then it came back about a month ago…
I learned today that if I tilt my head all the way back, the pulsing isn’t there anymore. I’m not sure why that is though, and it comes right back once I bring my head back to normal position.
On another forum, I was told to look up patulous eustachian tube. On the wikipedia page, there is a recommendation to put your head down between your knees, so I tried it and in that position I can’t hear and feel the pulsing. Unfortunately it comes right back once I return to a normal head position. I’m going to my ENT in a few days, so I’ll ask him about this.
I’ve had pulsing tinnitus for a long time, it’s in my left ear only. None of my doctors seem concerned about it nor can they tell me why it is there, but it drives me crazy!! I also have crickets and other high pitched sounds in both ears. It ranges from barely there to somewhat tolerable.
I’ve tried bringing this whooshing sound up with the docs only to be told that tinnitus can create many different sounds. I don’t know if this is true for you, but when I hear the whooshing, I can also feel it, like water through a garden hose. No pulsing, but in my mind, I am positive it has something to do with blood flow. One odd thing that I also get when I hear/feel the whooshing, is fans at a certain frequency will go up and down in volume with my heartbeat.
Just saw my ENT yesterday, and he suspects a eustachian tube problem. Possibly caused by the verapamil which I started 3 weeks ago, where I’m dehydrated, and the tube is open.
Has anyone else experienced dehydration symptoms from this med? I’m also on a diuretic - lasix, and maybe the combination of the two is messing me up.
