Hi Sally,
I think with any of these meds, they can make a migraineur feel worse before getting better. I find it painfully hard to judge just how much worse we should tolerate before possibly feeling well? Obviously there will be cases where a med simply won’t do the job whereas other times it will after a period of feeling rotten on it. I think you can only go with this for as long as you can as long as things don’t become so much worse that you cannot do things while adjusting to it or you just cannot see how it will improve your situ. I find it really difficult trialling these meds while trying to hold down a job that’s for sure.
Good luck on the amitriptyline.

Sally, I think Scott said it best…with me, I got worse with each new med in the beginning and then things settled down (although I didnt make it past day 11 with Nortriptyline due to increased blood pressure) but I still havent found the right one yet.
Thank you, the doctor just called and wants me to add Diltiazem because my blood pressure is running very high. It is a calcium channel blocker that I never heard of.
Hope it helps one thing or an others.
Best, Sally
I used to find with Amy, it would make me sleep a lot. If I had slept a lot the night before I would end up with a bad head.
Christine
Seems like that is the trend worse before better…but better at any point would still be good.
I got insomnia from Amitriptyline, which cleared up after about a week. Then I unfortunately got gastritis from eating very late (quite a meal) = food in belly all night = lots of acid = gastritis. If not I would deffo have continued as it helped symptoms.
HOWEVER, I felt dumb while taking it. And since my symptoms are good enough on their own lately, I’ve decided to go without meds. Lucky me, these trials are awful

Hi I had just the same reaction on this drug. It kicked off after a week. I also got insomnia. I lost courage and gave up but if i try it again I would probabaly persevere.
