I’ve had issues with full ears and some dizziness issues periodically over the years. Two weeks ago, I woke up in the night feeling dizzy, and when I opened my eyes the room was rapidly spinning. It was pretty freaky! The spinning passed after about 2 hours. Things were “normal” for the next week, though I sort of felt a bit woozy sometimes. Then I had another episode of the spinning room last week. I have since been to my ENT and had a hearing test, which shows hearing loss consistent with Meniere’s Disease. I am joining this group to hear folks’ stories, learn what worked and did not work, and to share whatever knowledge that I pick up as I figure out how to calm the dizziness and vertigo. I’m grateful to this group for offering guidance, since it seems like there are not many treatments available.

Welcome, Matchy. Sorry you’ve had such a rough introduction to vertigo, but I’m glad you found a place where people understand what those episodes can feel like.
It sounds like you’re already doing the right thing by working with an ENT and getting your hearing checked. Hopefully you’ll find some useful experiences here about managing the dizziness and figuring out what triggers or treatments make a difference.
Those first spinning episodes can be pretty frightening when you don’t know what’s happening. Hope things settle down for you soon.
Hello Matchy,
Thank you for sharing your story, and I am sorry you had those experiences. What I am finding is that everyone is different in their journey and what helps the dizzy/imbalance issue. Jovian is right, you are taking the correct steps in finding what works for you and it is great that you have found an ENT that supports you.
My name if Jenn, I have been diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease as well, back in 2022. I had gone through the awful head shaking goggle wearing test too, I wasn’t sure I was going to survive even that. My ENT helped me by giving a steroid shot in the ear drum and that lasted for two years until Sept 2025 I had the worst episode waking up and the house was spinning for a couple of hours. I had to take the next two days off to get back to normal, however, I work on presses so when I began to work the third day, the department began spinning and I had to leave to keep everyone and myself safe. I was then Diagnosed with Vestibular Migraine, this is where I am imbalance 100% of the time, not being able to drive, or work. Since then, the only thing I can do is my school work on the computer. MY ENT gave me Nortriptyline and it seem to work how ever I 've have been adjusting the mg as I feel, I went from 10 to 40 then to 10 and now I am on 20 mg and thinking of trying 30mg. It is almost a year now and I am on Long term disability due to the fact that I can not perform my job at my current employer. I receive my degree in Science ( Environmental and Conservation in November so maybe then I will be able to find a remote position in analysis or something. I have heard that some people have this spinning and imbalance issue over three years. Lets hope there is some help for us out there that can help us be able to enjoy life to the fullest. All the best to you and your journey.
Just know that you are not alone though I hear this is a rare issue, keep trying different things that you ENT gives you, it may help you not have those episodes anymore. good luck to you!
