Introduction to new person

I’m originally from the same place where this forum originated and I’m grateful for the effort put into creating and maintaining it. Since my spinal cord injury in 2016, I’ve been experiencing some level of vertigo. Alongside this, I’ve been dealing with reflex sympathetic dystrophy (now known as CRPS) since the 1980s. I currently reside in Emmaus, Pennsylvania and I’m seeking advice on the type of doctor I should consult regarding these issues. It’s important to note that I also experience low blood pressure, which causes dizziness and near-fainting when transitioning from sitting or lying down to standing. I’m eager to learn more about potential treatment options for my newest health challenge.

Welcome to the forum, @jgsvch! :tada: We’re so glad to have you here! Everyone is really friendly and eager to help, so you’re in good company. If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out the Welcome Topic here: Welcome to mvertigo! and the posting guidelines here: Please read this before posting.

Regarding your health challenges, it sounds like a lot to deal with! Given your experience with vertigo and CRPS, you might want to consult a neurologist or a pain specialist who has experience with complex conditions like yours. They can help you navigate the intricacies of your symptoms and recommend appropriate treatment options.

Feel free to share more about your journey, and don’t hesitate to ask questions—there’s a wealth of knowledge in this community!

Welcome. Finding the right medical provider(s) has been the biggest challenge for most of us on this forum. My suggestion is to find a neurologist who deals with vestibular disorders and go from there. Over the years I’ve worked successfully with a neurologist (a headache specialist), a neurotologist, a neuro-optometrist, and physical therapists specializing in vestibular disorders. These people aren’t easy to find but it’s worth seeking them out.

Over the course of my journey I’ve found two websites tremendously helpful:

VEDA - The Vestibular Disorders Association - is an advocacy organization for people with vestibular disorders. They have a lot of good information on their website and a list of medical providers they have vetted. They also will talk to you via phone or email if you need more information – good people.

Otoneurology - Dizziness and Balance website - Is a website created by the esteemed Dr. Timothy Hain. The website isn’t fancy but it’s packed with information about a range of disorders that include dizziness, vertigo, etc. There’s great information about diagnosis protocols, drug treatments, etc.
