Seeking Balance/Rock-Steady Program

Hi Dizzy3,
I am about to book a private session with her but the Rock Steady program is Soo expensive. Would you mind if I ask if it’s helping? I like her concepts and actually am VERY well versed in all things dizziness as I’ve been all over to the “best” doctors and have tried their medications that made me much much much worse. So, I’m going to try an acceptance approach as best I can. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

hey! i think all the info is really valuable, and interesting, and i think the best of it is changing the negative mindset to a positive one about the condition. I have improved I think because of meds but also I think it has helped with how or where i direct my energy. I think before I was 80% of the time thinking about symptoms, now In just acknowledge them and continue with my day. I can tell you more over phone if you want.

I think psychotherapy/counselling can be pretty helpful in general.

I had someone more local here in London and they were great. Didn’t make me any better (that just took time) but I was more equipped to deal with it.

PM me if you are in SE UK and would appreciate their details.

Acceptance is certainly a huge part of the equation. How much money one is prepared to spend depends on how much one is currently feeling adversely affected by the condition. I’ve just read most of yr older posts and can see you are pretty well versed with the psychological aspects and positivity. Might I enquire what still makes you feel you need this program? Have you tried CBT? Guess you most probably have but there are good self study courses on the internet. Helen

Dizzy3. Thank you! I am in the United States . I don’t know where you are but it would be great to talk with you before spending significant amount of money on this program.

Onondon03 Thank you so much for replying! Unfortunately, new events have passed since my old posts. Medications that I was taking actually made things worse for me and then I received a concussion while exercising which further exacerbated things And has made it more emotionally difficult for me to deal with my increased and constant frustrating symptoms. I have tried CBT and done a lot of work on my own but I was hoping that Joey had some new tips to give in her program.

The Seeking Balance program is a complete joke and I hope this honest review saves some hard-working person from spending their money on it. Joey presents herself as a scientist whereas she should really bill herself as some type of new-age guru. She might actually have success in that department.

I bought the full program because in her private FaceBook group, everyone talks about their great healing journeys. First, just be informed that if you say anything other than “this program is amazing I’m healing so well” in that group, your comment is deleted and they threaten to ban you. (Happened to me and a number of others I private messaged with).

Second, the program is nothing but fluff. It takes the scientifically valid concept of neuroplasticity and slaps in on a bunch of pseudoscience (things like physically tapping energy points in your body or pretending your own hands can heal). It also covers incredibly basic information, such as the flight/fight response and the need to be well-rested and hydrated, as if it’s some sort of amazing discovery.

Then there’s the bit where it tries to put you in therapy (which she’s very much not qualified to do) asking what our life values are and how we can be more self-compassionate. Participants are assigned vision boards, letters to self, and other hokey exercises. This is fine on its own but utterly unrelated to vertigo, PPPD, and tinnitus.

She provides a few extremely basic exercises for balance. It’s nothing you couldn’t find on the internet with a 10-second search or get from a physiotherapist.

Then there are the hilarious “bonus audios” which is mostly songs she’s written and talks about “connecting to my life force” and “abundance of life”. ?!?!

Her solution to real, life-altering medical problems is to slow down, relax, be kind to yourself, and take a day off. That is insulting and less than useless. The idea is to live again, whereas her idea is to respect your symptoms and let them call the shots.

The one this that I did gain from the program was the ability to accept my symptoms more and not freak out about them when they appear. Anxiety leads to more symptoms, so that is helpful. But seriously, don’t waste your money. I’m sure everyone’s improvement is nothing but placebeo.

Each to their own if it works for them and slowing down and relaxing is always sound advice. Not everyone’s answers are found conventially via medication and the well documented protocol. Why make fun of her making music if it helps her and others find joy in that. Acceptance is a very powerful tool for all aspects of life.

Making music is wonderful and I encourage it. What’s not okay is saying it will help others’ medical problems and then charging $1500 for it.

Does it actually state in the program that listening to her songs will heal you or are they advertised as bonus videos because that is what they are a “bonus” which people can listen to and enjoy if they want to?

yeah, they are just bonus audios.

She instructs you to make them a part of your program for your healing journey. It’s one of the main things advertised as a selling point when upgrading from the free package.

I think this is generally good advice for MAV, at least it was for me. I tried to carry on with my pre-MAV-paced life for a year until there was nothing left in my tank. After slowing down my life and focusing on treatment options I got my life back.

Your points are valid though, it does seem expensive. But so is massage which can easily get up to $1500 in a year.

i agree that being positive and acceptance are important. I agree $1500 is a lot of money, but she has free resources, shorter programs and scholarships. She gave me one and I am thankful for that. Agree that we spend a lot of money on this illness, at least these are resources for life. Not magic pill, but as we all know, there is no magic pill for our condition.

This is just basic marketing and a well known strategy. Everyone has a different budget and you simply aim to sell as much as possible of something. Some people are prepared to pay more than others so you differentiate your product offering accordingly to optimise your revenue. The free stuff is just enticement to consider paid services aka a ‘lead funnel’.

This person may be well meaning, but this is also a standard strategy used by, for example the ‘Fake Gurus’ on YouTube. Here’s a particularly egregious example:

https://youtu.be/GBKIpz_uTMI

Here they basically took each interested party as far as they could, rinsing them for more and more money every step of the way until the person eventually handed over a lot more than they initially intended.

Different domain, but some similar red flags:

Be careful out there!

The life coach industry is over $1 billion now. My wife is really into it and I can see it clearly helps her quite a bit. I think it’s cool that someone is trying to be a helpful coach to dizzy people and can’t imagine they would be in it to “make it big”. With all your expertise seems you could “consult” for people as well. Maybe she’d hire you as a technical consultant? :grinning:

I think if you go with the low expectations of “I’m going to get a sympathetic and understanding ear” it’s ok, but expecting them to improve on the results you can get with an experienced and qualified psychotherapist referred to by your primary health provider is not reasonable. You’d need to compare the charges to determine if it is worth it for you. I respect a good qualified psychotherapist can be $200 an hour!

I hope you find her book helpful. I’ve read a bit on the internet that she wrote advertising her wares. She’s obviously got some understanding of how we suffer however she’s already known on here and has been discussed several times before. A couple of people have signed up and paid her fees I understand. If you had carried out a Search you would have found
Seeking Balance/Rock-Steady Program
